Set in the foothills of the NC Blue Ridge Mountains, the Lake James region has been blessed with incredible natural beauty that has inspired a time-honored commitment to protect that beauty. The history of the region is accented by unwavering efforts to create state and national parks that will preserve the area for generations to come.

Crescent Communities on Lake James is committed to upholding this tradition of stewardship. Our vision is founded in creating communities on Lake James that encourage our residents to build homes that are subordinate to nature. To ensure that the Lake James you fall in love with today is the one you’ll enjoy for generations, we seek to establish connections to history, nature and community.

We collaborated with national, state and local organizations to establish architectural covenants that require homes and structures to blend seamlessly with their natural environment: Lake James and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Where possible, we have left large areas of undisturbed land between homesites. And, setbacks on waterfront lots often exceed most state and local requirements. Our sales houses in 1780 and Old Wildlife Club are tangible examples of our vision in action.

We’re working to establish certified backyard habitats throughout our communities, creating places that welcome wildlife, and our staff is available to assist residents in doing the same. We also helped expand Lake James State Park by almost 3,000 acres through a sale-and-donation initiative.

And to ensure this vision of stewardship continues, we’ve established the Lake James Stewardship Fund. Every time a home or homesite is sold in one of Crescent’s Lake James communities, the seller will pay a 0.5 percent fee to the fund. This will be used to fund environmental and civic stewardship initiatives in the region and allow for maintenance and marketing of Camp Lake James, the community and the region.
