Tucked away on 700 acres of the “Black Bear” area of McDowell County, NC, Black Forest basks in dramatic views of the western side of Lake James, as well as the Blue Ridge Mountains and Pisgah National Forest. Residents enjoy an incredible collection of recreational amenities, including miles of walking trails, two amenity areas and a full-time caretaker who lives on the property to keep the community in great condition.

Black Forest is the first residential community in western North Carolina to achieve certification through the Audubon International Gold Signature Program. The project was certified as a Gold Signature Sanctuary on July 6, 2006.

Just a few homesites remain in Black Forest. These homesites average 14 acres, and each affords owners the ability to create multiple dwellings at their own pace. With a two-acre area designated as a meadow and space to build a barn, one of the available homesites is the first equestrian lot ever available in a Crescent community on Lake James.
