History of Lake James
Through generations, the people of Lake James have held to the steadfast traditions of environmental stewardship and historic preservation. The area’s densely forested shoreline and protected wilderness in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains are testaments to the region’s efforts to establish a shelter for nature and its inhabitants.
Lake James is surrounded by protected lands, including the sprawling Pisgah National Forest, the oldest national forest in the U.S., and the 3,600-acre Lake James State Park. Several more state parks are within a short drive, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is only minutes away. Additionally, the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail – a linear national park that pays tribute to the patriot militia of the Revolutionary War – winds its way through our 1780 community.
At Crescent Communities on Lake James, our vision is to create treasured mountain retreats that exist in harmony with the lake and the land. Places that call to you when you’re away. Places that will continue the call to your children and grandchildren.
The tradition of environmental stewardship and historic preservation is very much alive in our Lake James communities. And we’re committed to protecting the area’s natural beauty for generations to come.
