Communities Inspired by Stewardship
Crescent Communities on Lake James is focused on environmental safeguards and preservation. From our large, wooded homesites to the thousands of acres of protected lands surrounding the area, environmental stewardship is our hallmark. With Lake James State Park, Pisgah National Forest and Linville Gorge Wilderness, natural beauty surrounds us and inspires us to build in harmony with the region’s rich environmental heritage.
Our vision is to create communities that encourage our residents to build homes that are in harmony with nature. To ensure that the Lake James you fall in love with today is the one your family enjoys for generations, we seek to establish connections to history, nature and each other.
We work with residents to create certified backyard habitats – spaces that welcome plants and animals alike. Where possible, we have left large areas of undisturbed land between homesites. We banned the practice of clear cutting, and setbacks on waterfront lots often exceed state and local requirements. Structures built in our communities – from The Camp to private homes – use materials and colors that blend in with the natural surroundings. Our ultimate goal is to help residents create homes that allow incredible views, but that are nearly invisible when seen from a distance.
We collaborated with national, state and local organizations to establish architectural covenants that require homes and structures to blend seamlessly with their natural environment of Lake James and the Blue Ridge Mountains. We use natural-looking materials for all our structures, and our Habitat Review Board ensures that all homes are built to the high standards of our shared vision.
